Country View Challenge

Welcome to my first web page and blog, I hope you like what you see !
As this is a new experience for me please excuse my mistake's.
Today I thought I would show you my grandads 100th birthday project, which I will try to enter
Into Country View crafts June challenge , which is all about die cuts.
Well here goes! Follow this link to see what the challenge is all about:

As you can see in the first photo, I used a Graphic 45 12 by 12 inch box, and using Tim Holtz distress paints coloured the box black. I then cut four pieces of card mitred each end to fit the box ,then cut out large and small cogs using the Tim Holtz sizzix dies ,glued them to my four card strips, at this point there was no need to colour them as I covered the mitred strips with aluminium plumbers tape, then ran them through my die cutting machine, using the embossing mat and thin rasberry plate.
Then I used the distressed black paint over the surface , after it started to dry I wiped it with a baby wipe ,so that some of the silver showed through. After it dried completely I stuck it onto the box and then rubbed various waxes onto the raised surface.
When all was dry I added various die cut cogs after colouring them with the metallic distressed paint.
In side the box I die cut the big shot pro large easel die, using mount board and decorated it with both eyelets and yet more die cut cogs!
Then I made up the pocket watches for the zeros, using Tim Holtz Sizzix pocket watch die, the large circles movers and shapers and the spellbinders cogs and gears embossing plate. I covered this again with the black distressed paint, wiping some off as it started to dry adding some of the smaller cogs from the Sizzix movers and shapers.
To these I added some sticky gems, well you do get jewelled watches, here I had to hold my self back not to make it too pretty ( as it is for a guy) I then suck them down over the top of the embossed background which was stuck to the back piece of grunge board. To make each pocket watch you need two pieces of grunge board ,out of the first one you cut one complete pocket watch and one with the centre cut out as a frame.
The second piece of grunge board you cut two frames, so each watch is made up of four layers of grunge board. I used one of my Sizzix die boxes and a spellbinders circle die for the glass look front of each watch and glued this in place before the last watch frame was put in place.i found it easier to colour the watch parts before putting them together , and then adding finishing touches after all the glue had dried.
The number one was made, still using four layers of grunge board, the die cut i used here was the large bigz serif letter R , cut from the first arm the centre two layers had a wedge cut out of the top so i could insert two layers of the ring from the top of the pocket watch die, this was coloured and put together just as the pocket watches were and a layer of metalic film this time stuck on water coloured paper to give it bulk before running it through the embossing machine.
This is also what I used on in the back ground of the watches. Some small jewelled cogs were added, then the one and both pocket watches were tied on to the easel which was in turn tied to a large 12 by 12 inch piece of card and fixed to the back of the box.
I hope this is not too long winded.

Pin ItJust to finish off here's a close up of the pocket watch!
Fingers crossed my grandad likes it.
